Rules of Engagement

FloridaThinks is a forum for civil debate.  We encourage all of our readers to join the discussions here by posting brief comments in response to our published articles and commentaries and by submitting their own essays for consideration by FloridaThinks’ editors.

To help readers draft appropriate comments and submissions, here are seven guidelines:

  1. Be succinct and state your points as concisely as possible.
  2. Develop a well-reasoned argument, supported by verifiable facts.  Whenever appropriate, include links to online sources of factual information cited.
  3. Do not cite unfounded rumors.  Any posted comment containing such hearsay will be deleted by our editors.
  4. Do not support your argument with quotations from sources known to deal in rumor-mongering, insults and innuendo.
  5. When criticizing positions stated by another writer on this site, attack the argument, not the arguer.
  6. Do not rant.  Do not rave.  Persuade your fellow readers with sound reasoning.
  7. Do not include obscenities.  Comments containing most such words will automatically be blocked.

Any reader who spots a posted comment that violates these guidelines should notify FloridaThinks editors immediately by clicking on Contact in the navigation bar at the top of this page and using the Report a Comment form shown listed there.
